Consultative Forum on Antimicrobial Consumption data collection

The antimicrobial consumption/use data collection campaign spearheaded by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate(VMD), Directorate of Veterinary Services(DVS) and supported by International Livestock Research Institute(ILRI) together with World Organization of  Animal Health(WOAH) organized a consultative forum with all the stakeholders in the Veterinary Medicines supply chain on April 6, 2023 at the Sarova Hotel, Nairobi.

Stakeholders invited were Kenya Veterinary Board(KVB), VISAK, representatives in the manufacturing sector, wholesalers/distributors, Retailers and other bodies or persons who had interest in the AMU topic

The pertinent issues discussed in the forum were; What it means by Antimicrobial Use(AMU), National action plan for the prevention and control of AMR, Antimicrobial use reporting(ANIMUSE), Challenges of data collection on AMU and many more.

It was agreed that since VMD is the custodian of the data, it has to come up with a tool(industry based) and framework for reporting data on AMU
